I work with FLIP Publicity on a regular basis helping some of their clients with their design needs. This poster was created as a concept for a dance show developed by Coleman and Lemieux. The project didn’t move forward, but I liked this concept and thought it was worth sharing.

The Chimera Project

The Chimera Project is one of Toronto’s most well-known contemporary dance companies.

Powerful, risk-taking and fiercely contemporary, The Chimera Project creates visceral theatre experiences that break down the social veneer between audience and performer. Founded in 1999 by award-winning choreographer Malgorzata Nowacka, The Chimera Project confronts the audience with high-octane physicality, ferocious technique and darkly gritty themes.

I’ve had the pleasure of working on two different shows with The Chimera Project over the past couple of years. I’ve worked on two different concepts for both Blood and The Hidden Spot. Both times each mounting of the productions had different designs, each time more refined from the first.

The refined designs tend towards the more minimalist in keeping with the type of dance and presentation the company creates.

Behind The Veil

This was the first time I had the pleasure of working directly with a photo taken specifically for a project I was working on from the amazing photographer Cylla von Tiedemann. The poster was designed for Evolution Dance Theatre, a client whom I had also created the brand for earlier this year. Behind the Veil is a new piece choreographed and directed by Armineh Keshishian, the company’s founder.The photo selections I had to work with were fantastic and we really wanted to get across the sensuality of the female figure, the exoticness of the dance and the constraint many Middle Eastern woman feel when they are “behind the veil”. I’m very proud of this piece as it gave me a lot of room to play and work with some delicious colour combinations, if I do say so myself.

A brochure and house programme also accompanied the poster.
